Nottingham Outlaws Academy RL 20 Derby Elks RL 54

With an enforced blank weekend Derby Elks took the opportunity to be part of the Outlaws Legends day playing the Academy at Lenton Lane.

Much changed team again with players in different positions meant an interesting afternoon!

Outlaws were the first to take advantage of possession scoring their first try after 5 minutes 4.0

Finally the Elks woke up! Firstly a weaving run winding back the years by Full Back Lewis Thompson crossed the line after 7 minutes converted by Half Back Dan Wilson 4.6

This was instantly followed with a try from Winger Daryl Sanders in the corner, unconverted 4.10

Half Back Owen Gregory was next to across 5 minutes later, converted by Wilson 4.16

Prop Tom Anderson used his strength to burst through a number of Outlaws players to score next to the posts, converted by Wilson 4.22

Charlie Clarke was rewarded with a try after a great first half performance, unconverted 4.26

Last couple of minutes of the first half belonged to the Outlaws, deservedly scoring a try to the right of the posts, unconverted but an indiscretion from an Elks player saw Outlaws rewarded a penalty in front of the posts.

Half time, Outlaws Academy 10 Derby Elks 26

Elks bench entered the field and first 10 minutes of the second half were relatively even with both teams competing evenly.

12 minutes in and Hooker George Doughty took a return pass from his brother Joe to score between the posts, converted by Wilson 10.32

2 minutes later a break by Centre Lee Lawson saw him tackled 20 metres out, quick ball saw Wilson pass for Captain Joe Doughty to score, converted by Wilson 10.38

Straight away Doughty crossed for his second of the match from close distance again converted by Wilson 10.44

With just 12 minutes to go the Outlaws scored two tries, good play coupled with tiring Derby players, 1 converted bringing the score to a more respectable 20.44

The Elks weren’t quite finished, a break left from Hooker Doughty who reached out a free hand to get Josh Lister over in the corner, unconverted 20.48

Final try of the match was a 40 metre break by Sailosi Wakawaka to score between the posts with the extras added by Wilson 20.54

A game played with the right attitude by both teams resulted in a full time score of Nottingham Outlaws Academy RL 20 Derby Elks RL 54.

Many players stood out for the Elks side, both Doughty’s, Galway Hargreaves who continues to improve every game, Lee Lawson and Dan Wilson but Ilkeston RUFC Chairmans man of the match award going to Owen Gregory.
